Connecting Talent to Modeling Agencies in Las Vegas and Elsewhere
In addition to portrait photography, we also act as model scouts, which means that we seek out talent to develop and then pitch that talent to major agencies in large markets in hopes of getting them signed. We focus primarily on getting talent signed to agencies in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Miami. We regularly go out and look for potential talent, but we’re always happy to consider submissions. If you have an interest in modeling, please fill out the application below and someone from our team will be in touch.
A Word about the Different Types of Models Employed by Modeling Agencies in Las Vegas and other Major Markets
There are many different types of models—too many to name here. Instead, let’s focus on the major categories that modeling agencies use. Broadly speaking, these categories—or model types—are editorial models, commercial models, classics/mature models, fitness models, and petite models. In other words, when an agency is considering a prosepctive model, they are basing their decision to sign that prospective model in part on whether he or she fits neatly into one of the aforementioned categories. It’s important to know where you potentially fit in when assessing your own potential, whether you’re considering Las Vegas modeling agencies, or agencies in larger markets such as Los Angeles or New York.
Editorial Models
Editorial models—particularly high fashion editorial models—are often used in magazine articles to sell a product, such as perfume, jewelry, or clothing. You can readily find these sorts of editorials in Elle, Vogue, or GQ. The goal of an editorial is to sell a vibe or lifestyle—usually a rarified one. The creators of these articles are trying to make consumers feel as though owning a particular product will elevate them into an elite position within society. As such, editorial models should have a look that is aspirational and unique. Female editorial models generally need to be between 5’8” and 6’ tall, and males need to be between 5’11” and 6’3”.
Commercial Models
Commercial models are also used to sell products, but the products are not typically as elevated as those marketed by editorials and editorial models. Commercial models are used to market housewares, fast fashion (as opposed to high fashion), cuisine, entertainment products, etc. For example, a pretty young woman with a girl-next-door aesthetic might be used to sell toothpaste in a TV commercial. Requirements for commercial models are more flexible than they are for editorial models. Female commercial models need to be between 5’6” and 5’11”, and male commercial models need to be between 5’9” and 6’2”. Such models can be any shape or size depending on the product a company is trying to market. Generally, there is more work for commercial models at modeling agencies in Las Vegas, NV than there is for editorial models. A model can make more money as a commercial model simply because of the greater demand for these types of models.
Classics/Mature Models
Classics/mature models are over 35 years old and are often used to market products to an older demographic. Age spots are perfectly acceptable, as are wrinkles, lines, etc.; however, classics models must be healthy and physically fit and have a friendly and professional presentation.
Fitness Models
Fitness models are often used to market fitness apparel and supplements, as well as exercise equipment and gyms. They tend to carry more muscle than the average model while also maintaining a low body fat percentage. Being a fitness model requires extreme dedication—one’s entire existence generally has to revolve around maintaining the “perfect” athletic physique.
Petite Models
Finally, petite models are generally female and are in the height range of 5’1” to 5’7”. Lily-Rose Depp (Johnny Depp’s daughter) is an example of a petite model (she’s 5’3”).
An important note: The categories above are not exhaustive. There are many more categories, and some of the ones illustrated above have their own compartments/subcategories. Furthermore, Las Vegas modeling agencies and agencies in other major markets have varying height requirements and aesthetics. For example, some agencies prefer a more natural look, while others tend to prefer models on the taller end of the spectrum. It’s important to be able to see yourself objectively and then match with an agency that appreciates what you bring to the table. One of the things we do at Bartholomew Photography is try to find that perfect fit for you.
